CAFOD is the overseas aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

An internship at CAFOD enables you to put your faith into action whilst gaining experience of the international development sector.

A CAFOD intern works within, and is fully supported by, a small government relations team who are responsible for CAFOD’s parliamentary engagement.

This role includes a diverse mixture of policy, campaigns and media work as well as direct parliamentary work meeting MPs and Peers, and organising briefings.

My role as a Parliamentary Assistant saw me meet and build relationships with MPs, craft parliamentary questions for them to ask in the chamber and select committee scrutiny sessions, research and prepare briefings on important issues (such as safeguarding the international aid budget), and even organising and managing my own All Parliamentary Group of MPs (something I didn’t even know existed before my time here!). My internship saw me do and see things I’d never dreamed were possible just a year ago when I was finishing my degree, and see me develop in a way that is invaluable for my future career.
